This is the time of year which I like the most; Festivity is all around, Navratri is the start of the festival season. People all over the world celebrate Navratri with enthusiasm and ardour. I personally love this time of the year; it’s the time of fun, family, friends and loads of delectable food (laugh)

If you plan to fast the entire 8-9 days during Navratri, ensure that you do it in a healthy way. Eat right to check your weight during fasting as people end up eating way too much during this time.

This Navratri indulge yourself in Healthy fasting and give your body that much needed cleansing and detoxification with healthy food.

Have a run though at these scrumptious dishes to give your fasting a healthy makeover;

Sugarfree Almond Pudding with Barnyard Millet

Almond Pudding With Banrnyard Millet

This season treat your family with a healthy and flavour some dessert, I bet you will love this it.

Ingredients & Quantity

  • ½ litre skimmed milk
  • 250 ml almond milk
  • 1 cup Barnyard millet
  • ½ tbs desi ghee
  • 3-4 cardamom powder
  • 8-10 Almonds
  • 2-3 drops of almond essence
  • 3 sachet of stevia (You can add 3 tbs of sugar)
  • 1 tbs milkmaid (Optional)

How to cook?

  • Take a medium pot, heat Desi ghee
  • Now add cardamom powder
  • Immediately put washed Barnyard millet
  • Sauté for 2-5 mins
  • Now add skimmed milk and cooking till the millet soften like rice
  • Add almond milk to it
  • Now add sugar free and cook till milk get reduced to half, the process will take 30-45 mins approx.
  • Finally add milkmaid.
  • Now chop the almonds into flakes and roast with 2-3 drops of ghee.
  • Pour the mixture in shot glasses and top with roasted almond
  • Refrigerate for 1-2 hrs
  • Serve chilled.

Try this simple and light Samak Khichdi, It contains only 169 Calories per 174 g as it is high in digestible fiber. It is similar to rice in taste and texture. It has a rich source of minerals and vitamins, providing essential ingredients and keeps you full for long.

Ingredients & Quantity

  • 1/2 cup Samak rice
  • 1 tbsp Desi ghee
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1-2 Green chilies
  • 4-5 Peppercorns
  • 1 tsp Turmeric (optional)
  • Senda Namak as per taste
  • Lemon (optional)

How to cook?

  1. Heat ghee in pressure cooker
  2. Put cumin seeds, let them crackle
  3. Add peppercorns
  4. Add chopped green chiliesNow wash and put the samak rice followed by turmeric powder and salt
  5. 3-4 cups water
  6. Cook for 5-10 mins or till cooked
  7. If you find its a bit dry, add more water
  8. Serve hot with a gentle squeeze of lemon and garnish with coriander leaves  😊

Paneer/Cottage Cheese Pudding or Paneer Ki Kheer

Ingredients & Quantity

  • 1/2 cup paneer, grated
  • 1 Tbs Desi Ghee
  • 1 Cup low fat milk
  • 1/2 tbs green cardamom
  • 1 tbs spoon sugar free
  • 1 tbs milkmaid
  • 2-3 Drops of Kewra
  • 4-5 Kesar strands
  • 1 tbs mix dry fruits (Raisins+ Almonds+ Cashews + Pumpkin seeds)

 How to cook?

  1. Boil the milk with grated paneer (Cottage cheese)
  2. Add sugar free & boil till milk start thickening.
  3. Now add milk maid and stir well
  4. Add Kewra and Saffron/Kesar Strands
  5. Mix well and remove from the gas adding cardamom powder
  6. Heat ghee in a pan and put all the dry fruits together and roast nicely
  7. Top the Pudding with roasted dry fruits and Chill in refrigerator for 2-3 hours
  8. Serve chilled

Healthy Baked Sabudana/Sago Cutlet

Fluffy light inside and crispy crunchy outside, those cutlets are to die for

Ingredients & Quantity


  • 1 Cup Sabudana/Sago
  • ½ Cup boiled Potatoes
  • ½ Cup Peanuts
  • 1 tbs Cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tbs turmeric powder
  • 3-4 Green chilies, chopped
  • ¼ Cup Parsley
  • Salt to taste (fasting salt optional)


  • 2-3 Tomatoes
  • ½ cup Corainder leaves
  • 2-3 green chilies
  • Cumin seeds
  • Mint leaves
  • Salt to taste (fasting salt optional)

How to cook?

  1. Soak Sabudana/Sago for 1 hr in water
  2. Then strain the water and keep it covered for 4-5 hrs to let them rise nicely
  3. Now dry roast the Peanuts and grind them, do not grind into fine powder, we need coarse powder
  4. Now mix it with Sabudana/Sago
  5. Add chopped green chilies, Boiled mashed potatoes, Cumin seeds, salt, parsley
  6. Mix them well
  7. Now with your hands roll the mixture into balls and flatten to make cutlet shape
  8. Now put it in the oven for 15-20mins or you can airfryer for 15mins at 160 degrees
  9. Your Sabudana/Sago Cutlet ready

Here are some tips you can follow to stay energetic and active during fasting the way I am;

  1. Keep yourself hydrated, drink loads of water,iced green tea, buttermilk, Lassi, lemon water.
  2. Try taking small meals in the form of fruits and dryfruits that you don’t starve
  3. Instead of frying stuff, try to eat baked or grilled stuff. Try avoiding deep frying completely.
  4. Keep your diet balanced with carbs, proteins, vitamins and minerals.
  5. Try avoiding sweets and if you crave go for fruits

Finally Guys! I am fasting for entire 9 days and this is the diet I am following;

Fruits with skimmed milk
Fruit smoothie or shakes with walnuts or almonds

Coconut water with fruits
Iced Green tea


Baked Sabudana Cutlet with Tomato/ Mint chutney
Samak rice Khichdi with curd and sala.
Sabudana Khichi with curd
Kuttu chapatti with Bottlegourd curry and curd

Post Lunch:
Drink a cup of hot green tea

Green tea with baked banana chips/roasted makhana/baked namkeen

Milk with fruits
Vegetable salad
Bottle gourd soup


  • Paneer Pudding

  • Fruits with Yoghurt
  • Sabudana Pudding
